New Prague Congress Ambassadors Rewarded

Now in its seventh year Prague Convention Bureau’s Congress Ambassadors programme celebrated another heavyweight round of events successes with a ceremonial evening at the official Residence of the Mayor of Prague.

The event was held with the support of the City of Prague, represented by the Mayor, Adriana Krnáčová, and the Ministry of Regional Development, represented by Minister, Karla Šlechtová. The gala evening was moderated by Veronika Paroulková.

The aim is to award renowned Czech scientists, experts, professors and doctors who represent the Czech Republic in international professional associations, actively lobby in favour of Prague and then participate in preparatory work on the scientific programme or on the organising committees of events brought into the Czech capital.
This year’s Ambassadors:
• Congress of The Year 2015 - RNDr. Vladimír Čermák, DrSc., Institute of Geophysics of the CAS, for 26th General Assembly of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics.
• Congress of the Year with less than 500 attendees - prof. MUDr. Julius Špičák, CSc., Head of the Hepatogastroenterology Department at the Institute of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, Prague, for 16th International Celiac Disease Symposium.
• Candidacy of the Year - doc. MUDr. Petra Tesařová, CSc., Oncology Clinic of the General University Hospital, Prague, and prof. Florian Lordick, MD, University Cancer Center Leipzig, for the International Gastric Cancer Congress which will be held in 2019.
• Corporate Event of the Year 2015” - the Saint-Gobain 350th anniversary of the Saint Gobain Czech Republic and Slovakia.
• Long-term Contribution to Congress Tourism” - prof. MUDr. Vladimír Tesař, DrSc., MBA, FERA, FASN, Head of Department of Nephrology at the General University Hospital, Prague and the 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, Prague.
• Special prize from Prague Congress Centre - prof. MUDr. Jan Betka, DrSc. FCMA, Head of Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, Prague and Motol University Hospital, for the 3rd Congress of European Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery.

Congratulating the winners, Prague Convention Bureau Managing Director, Roman Muška said: “I’d like to thank all of our Ambassadors who have devoted time to bidding for, and organising, events in the city. They have contributed to the global promotion of their fields of study and also helped the city to attract 123 major association meetings in 2015, according to ICCA statistics – a 4.2 percent rise on 2014.”
Karla Šlechtová, Minister for Regional Development, said: “Congress tourism is one of the most profitable segments in the Czech Republic’s tourism industry, in Prague itself, but also across many other towns and regions which prove their own educational and tourism potential on numerous occasions. I thank all of the Prague Ambassadors for their excellent work and for promoting the Czech Republic all around the world.”
