The 4TH APECATE Congress Achieves its objectives

On the 29th and 30th of January, business executives, institutional representatives, teachers and a few students filled the congress hall and meeting rooms at the Montebelo Ílhavo Hotel. The workload was intensive with great participation. As requested by the organization, national and international speakers left clear and strong messages very helpful to all those present. They will be posted on the Congress website.

During the opening session, Ana Mendes Godinho, Secretary of State for Tourism made two important announcements: the creation of a specialized team to capture congresses and events and the intention of the Government to issue a new tax package for the tourism sector in 2017.

During the panels the following was debated: conditions and demands of company internationalization; the difficult challenge of territorial planning when the growth in tourist demand makes the task of achieving compatibility between the visitors and the inhabitants more complex; the new promotional tools and the capture of business in a fiercely competitive world dominated by the volatile interest of consumers who see and read proposals from business executives only to the extent the latter are able to capture their; the financial resources – different objectives but also imbalances, problems and delays; Portugal’s position in the world of Adventure Tourism and the importance of sustainable policies for the development of this sector and finally; the difficult matter of taxation explained in a session which proved too short given the many doubts raised.

Sunday morning, now away from the Congress center, the learning process continued with a light program of discovery exposing the participants, through a fun pedypaper, to the charms of the Vista Alegre premises; the old houses, the shops, the chapel, the washing facilities of the day care center, the ceramics atelier, the ancestral grove……

According to APECATE, all went well and the event was also a winning bet for the region as had been promised by the president of ERT, Pedro Machado, an enthusiastic supporter of this Congress away from the region of Lisbon. For certain, everyone left with the image of the Montebelo Vista Alegre Ílhavo Hotel as a miracle of restoration of a heritage engraved on their minds; the homage to Vista Alegre’s artistic creation as seen in its decoration, the comfort of the rooms, the excellent gastronomy, the surprise of arriving in Ílhavo to discover that it is a paradise on the river. Also, the Maritime Museum where the group was invited to dine with the Mayor; the unforgettable sight of the live codfish who swim to the surface to greet the passersby and, the simplicity of the museum area, well worth the visit.
